Polarity

She never looked back, fighting her way through a snowstorm. He watched her go away into the rocky snowy mountains from the window near the fireplace.

The cold could not bite her will & the fire didn’t burn his ego.

Expectations can clear or blur reality as love blinds you from the outside and the inside.

Gyanban Thoughts: A short 55 word fiction on philosophy of love and life.Sometimes a small gesture can go on to mend a broken sentiment or sometimes even a broken heart. But more often than not, it doesn't happen. It is important to realize that moment when we chose to put on the blinkers, because that moment goes on to re write the history of your life.

Tipping Point

She stood at the edge of the cliff knowing exactly what lay ahead.  One more step and there would be no turning back. She had a life to end and memories to forget. The pain was deep rooted, the feelings numb and the reason to live, had no more logic to support.
It was at that moment ,her will to survive flew through her veins. It was at that moment she took control of her moving foot and stopped. It was at that moment she decided to return. It was that moment she decided to give it back.
After all, hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.

Gyanban Thoughts : A micro fiction highlighting drama as an underlying theme.

The Final Shot.

‘What kind of a name is that, Vidyutparna Godbole?’asked the producer frowning.
‘Its just a name’she said.
‘Change it – else no one is going to give you a lead role with that name.Audience likes to hear names like Katrina Kaif, Deepika Padukone ,Priyanka Chopra ,Kareena Kapoor.’
‘They too,are just names’she said.

‘Well lady, you don’t have a job,you don’t look too hot,you won’t sleep for the role, and you are not ready to expose. So essentially you are here to waste my time.’

‘No sir there is talent,I can act’ she said lowering her head.

The producer looked and smiled ‘the door is on your left, and talent is pouring outside your highness’.

Vidyutparna knew walking out of that door would mean many more doors would close on her face. The producer was a well known man and had many hits under his belt.

‘I will do anything to get this role, and if that means I ve got to kill you so be it’she shot back at the producer.

For a moment it was believable.

‘Nice try,it doesn’t shock me. These stunts have been attempted by hundreds of women before’he chuckled.

She stood in front of his desk looking right into his eyes.
‘Like I said, the door is waiting for you’he gestured.
She pulled out a gun and shot him in the middle of his face.
Just one shot, perfect.

She said looking around ‘Cut it. That was the final shot – pack up for today everyone.’

Gyanban Thoughts : A short story which leaves you thinking about the multiple options, possibilities the story could ve evolved and I'm thinking about it too...

Irony

Jogi shouted from the cliff – ‘see you bastard, I am alive’.
The path to freedom lay in front, he was about to be a free man now.
Serving a life term on a remote island was a curse in itself. But Jailer Romero made it a life worth giving up. On the first day of a prison term Jailer Romero would greet the new comer with a warm hug, clean him, inspect every crevice on his body, then dress him up and finally walk him to his cell and utter those famous lines- ‘You die only once, but I can make it happen every day’.

Jogi never fell in line.Obedience was the missing chromosome in his body.He tried escaping 22 time in the last 14 years.Solitary confinement, ice blocks confinement, food deprivation, the mummy trap and split eagle – these were Jailer Romero’s torture techniques or work of art,as he’d like to call it.

That day, Jogi came out of yet another solitary confinement. He was given water, some food, and a bath.He slipped in the bathroom and injured himself. He lay there motionless, not enough energy to scream, not enough resolve to pick himself up.The attendant promptly forced open the door and alerted Jailer Romero.

Jailer Romero remarked‘Slippery when wet, eh?’
Jogi looked up feebly and smiled ‘its easy to enter or exit when its wet’
Jailer Romero landed the baton on his shin and said ‘well we need to make the surface rough in that case’.

Jogi had to be taken to the hospital to repair the shin bone and ruptured veins. Not the one to sit still,he created a ruckus in the helicopter. It crashed  and with it, his hopes of escaping the island.

But he picked himself up yet again.

Jogi shouted seeing Romero running towards him ‘See you bastard,I am still alive.’ And then he jumped into the blue ocean below.

Jailer Romero stopped running,he paused to catch his breath and then smiled. He thought about the long iron spikes he’d nailed into the surface of the mountain. Each bent skywards to catch the prey.

Convicted rapist Jogi lay blood-splattered, spread eagle on the iron spikes, much like Kimberly Romero, whom he pushed from a construction site 14 years ago, and Jailer Romero laughed looking down from the cliff and said ‘rest in pieces - ironic isn't it?'

Gyanban Thoughts - inspired by Papillion or Shawshank , such great works of art. This is more of an ode to those masterpieces.

Unwrong the world !

Global warming , nuclear threat,
Who cares ,my needs should be met.
Pollution and the greenhouse effect,
What is that? Oh nothing to fret.

Sandy Storm or the fiscal cliff
Why are the Gods so miffed?
Mindless violence and sorrows deafen
Guns on arms swollen.

Dicey healthcare and dystopia
Financial crisis and hysteria.
Gang rape of life in media.
Sign of peace, an utopia.

Happy and Gay still in dismay
Black and white still fight,
Erupting fury in disarray.
Money might in poor light.

Terrorists and alarmists
Selective reading of the texts.
Water is in short supply
Yet tempers boiling nearby.

Dogged man and the human chain
Tested faith and  unforgiving pain
Pinned hopes to miracles in vain
Waited for a dawn which never came.

Where are we headed, what do we gain?
Crossroads ahead for the DNA strain.
Yet another moment goes by,
Wonder if God fell out of the sky?

Gyanban Thoughts: Where do we begin fixing things? What else will it take? What are we doing to change ourselves?

For 'Amanat'

Are you watching this?
Do you feel the pain?
Where is your protection ?
Or is my faith in vain?

How can you sit quiet?
Why wont it rain?
Is this what you made?
Or is my faith in vain?

When will you appear?
When will you tame?
Is this always the same?
Or is my faith in vain?

How many more deaths?
When will you ease the pain ?
Will you still keep us waiting?
Or is my faith in vain?

How long will she lay still?
Will you give her the will to live again?
Is the world safe and sane?
Or have I lost my faith in vain?

Gyanban Thoughts - there are too many things that are going wrong in the world today. My only question to God is what is HE waiting for? It took a million years for animals to become humans, looks like we are in a hurry to get back to origin.

I think of those people who committed this crime and how an innocent child grows up to become a beast? Who is responsible for their belief system , their thought process or their audacity ?

"Amanat" is on life support today...lying there in the hospital bed, probably searching for  God to answer her questions. And where is God today?

Edited to add: Dec 29. Amanat/Damini/Nirbhaya ...she is no more.

Tailor - New Stiches

‘What is it you want for your birthday my love? He asked.

She kept quiet, partly because she couldn’t breathe.

‘Don’t be afraid, tell me dear?’ He implored.

‘I want a sewing kit,I ‘d like to knit a sweater’ she whispered.

‘Ah is that it?.

He let go off her throat, and Chloe collapsed on the bed.

But I liked her fingers.Tender ,long, soft and caring.

Chloe was the perfect housewife.I loved her.

She cooked well, knit well and stiched well.

She kept me safe near her bed at all times.

But one day I realised she was using me.

Instead of cloth my blades were dipped in flesh.

Tender fingers can mislead you sometimes.

Gyanban Thoughts - this fiction short story is narrated in two different angles. One from the point of view of the wife and the other from the point of view of the scissor.I tried to keep both the versions to 55 words or thereabouts which was difficult.I keep trying to challenge myself to use usual ,everyday scenarios to write something plausible yet present it with a different angle.I hope the readers enjoyed this one.
